Invasões Biológicas e Segurança: uma frente descurada? Bio invasions and Security: a neglected front?

As invasões biológicas têm vindo a constituir-se nas últimas décadas como um importante fator de destruição dos ecossistemas naturais e a emergir como uma ameaça séria ao modo de vida de várias populações, consistindo um importante problema de segurança humana. Em Portugal a questão das invasões biológicas tem sido sistematicamente esquecida pelos governantes não estando presente no elenco de ameaças identificadas no Conceito Estratégico de Defesa Nacional (CEDN). Este artigo chama a atenção desta importante ameaça à segurança nacional e defende a participação das forças policiais portuguesas na definição de uma estratégia nacional de prevenção e contenção deste risco económico e humano. Biological invasions raised, in the last few decades, as an important factor of destruction of natural ecosystems and emerged as a serious threat to the way of life of human populations in many different places across the globe and becoming as an important issue of human security. In Portugal the issue of biological invasions have been systematically overlooked by the government and is not present in the list of threats identified in the Strategic Concept of National Defense (CEDN). This article draw attention to this important national security threat and supports the participation of the Portuguese Police Forces in the definition of a national strategy for the prevention and containment of this economic and human risk.
